Cleveland Childrens Museum

Posted by columbusdad on November 12, 2009

Cleveland Childrens Museum

We were up visiting the in-laws in Cleveland and Monday I took the boys to the Cleveland Childrens Museum. The museum is pretty small, but it was still pretty nice. The boys had a blast.Bone Man

The first Exhibit was about magic and they had a bunch of cool science and math activities for the boys to do.

Downstairs their was a mini town for them to play in with costumes for the boys to dress up in.

Mailman Heath

The boys also were excited about being on TV playing the role of the weatherman.

The only bummer was the water table. It was not fully functioning. The boys still had a lot of fun with it but it would have been cool if it were fully functioning.

Look Mom We're on TV

CoCo Key Water Resort is FREE!

Posted by columbusdad on November 3, 2009

Coco Key Water Resort

CoCo Key Water Resort has an amazing deal going on right now.  If you get to the water park before 5pm on Monday-Thursday you can swim/play for free. The doors open at 3pm and they are usually open until 9pm although you should check their schedule. This offer is valid until the 19th!

We took the boys yesterday and they had a blast. The park is definetly aimed at kids with several play areas and lots of slides for them to play on. They have 3 big slides but you have to be 48″ to ride. Unfortunatly Cedric clocks in a t 47″ and even though I tried to spike up his hair to make him tall enough he didn’t make the cut and was bummed he didn’t get to ride.

For more information about heading for free check out their site.

U Pick Strawberries

Posted by columbusdad on June 9, 2009

Yesterday we took the boys to Jacquemin Farms to pick strawberries. It was a lot of fun. Cedric had a blast looking under leaves for treasure.  Heath needed a little help figuring out which ones were ok to pick and which needed to be left on the plant. The only down side was that it isn’t an organic farm so we could not eat as we picked.

Both boys ended up with red fingers by the end of the day and we took 6 quarts of strawberries home for $12  – not a bad deal especially when you add in the entertainment factor for the kids.

We ate one quart at the bunny park and Alissa made a yummy gluten free strawberry pie. Unfortunately I gave the boys some pie after dinner which resulted in keeping them up for a LOOOONNNG time.

Not sure what we are going to do with the rest – any ideas?

Zoombezi Bay

Posted by columbusdad on May 25, 2009

My boys won some tickets to Zoombezi Bay at the Columbus Parent Expo so we spent the afternoon at Zoombezi Bay with the family. We even dragged along my in laws so they could play.

The Zoo purchased and renovated completely changed what had been Wyandot Lake two years ago, and we hadn’t been since. We had a blast despite being warned of bad weather by the Columbus weathermen.

The park has a bunch of big slides for the adults and has a large childrens area which was great for both boys. Divided into a few areas, the kids can choose from a small area for the very little ones and a larger area for the older kids including a pirate ship and slide tower great for ages 3 and up, or venture into the large structure from which multiple water slides pour out and a gigantic barrel dumps a hundred gallons of water every twenty minutes.

Heath had a blast in the smaller kids area and also had some fun in the older kids area. There was a few things he couldn’t do, but overall it was accessible to him.

I was also glad we did not have to rent life jackets for the boys. The park has them available free of charge, which is good considering the price tag to get in ($30 for adults and $20 for kids – glad the boys won our tickets).

Alissa and I were able to leave the kids with grandpa and grandma and ride some of the bigger slides (woo hoo).

The one big issue I had with the park is that the big kids area (“Barracuda Bay”) is left over from the old water park and it seems like it has not been very well maintained. The area is supposed to have all these levers and nobs that kids can use to turn on and off water spouts, sprayers and waterfalls. Unfortunately I think about 80% of them did not work. This was very disappointing because this is something Heath really would have enjoyed.

We did end up having to pack up early. They kicked us out of the water when they saw some lightning. It was a bummer because we were just about to take Cedric on one of the bigger slides.

Overall we had a great time and the boys were completely worn out by the end, but the fact that the kids are has not been well maintained was disappointing.
